We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Kevin Watson as the new Principal of The Leigh UTC, succeeding Steve Leahey from September 2022. Please view the letter below shared with all parents and carers this morning for further information.
Dear parents and carers,
I let you know recently of Mr Leahey’s retirement after a decade of superb service leading The Leigh UTC. I promised to inform you once we had made an appointment to replace him. Following a national recruitment search and two-day interview process last week involving a range of key stakeholders, we have appointed Mr Kevin Watson as the new Principal from September.
Mr Watson is currently Head of College at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy in Greenwich, also part of Leigh Academies Trust, a post he has held since September 2021. Before that he was a senior executive within two south-east London schools belonging to the Harris Federation. Commenting on his appointment, Mr Watson said:
“It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as the new Principal of The Leigh UTC with effect from September 2022. I will embrace the opportunity to share my experiences and work closely with you to ensure the educational journey of your child is one of success, inspiration and enjoyment for all. We will continue to ensure a culture of the highest standards as we grow together.”
The recruitment panel was understandably anxious to replace Mr Leahey with a worthy successor who will carry on the success of The Leigh UTC after its various achievements since opening in 2014. In Mr Watson we firmly believe that we have found that person. Mr Leahey and Mr Watson will now begin a smooth transition process so that everything is ready for the new academic year. Mr Watson will be ably supported by our two Heads of College, Mr Arnould and Mr Alamu, and the rest of the UTC Team.
