We recently announced the appointment of Gordon Henderson, MP, as Chairman of Leigh Academy Minster (LAM). Over the last few weeks we have been working hard to assemble a strong board of governors to challenge and support leaders at LAM when it opens next September. We are now delighted to announce the appointment of our inaugural Vice Chair: David Day.
David has 40 years of education experience as a teacher with thirteen as a Headteacher across three different Kent secondary schools. On the news of being appointed Vice Chair of the Governing Board at the all-new Leigh Academy Minster he said, “I am honoured to be asked to be Vice Chair. Talented governors have been recruited and with Gordon Henderson MP as the Chair there will be clear support for quality education at Minster. I am impressed with the Leigh Academies Trust’s moral purpose. The mantra of delivering ‘education for a better world’ and ‘boundless ambition’ is highly relevant to Minster”.
David said he will “seek to encourage enthusiasm for learning, higher academic achievement for all and every student knowing the difference between right and wrong”. Between 2011 and 2013 David was the Executive Headteacher at The Isle of Sheppey Academy, a time when some of its best GCSE results ever were obtained. Before that he was Headteacher at Hayesbrook School and Wrotham School, both high schools in Kent.
He added, “There is a sense of unfinished business for me personally. Minster needs a Trust with a proven track record in Kent. The Leigh can provide this. Alongside committed governors I am looking forward to supporting our new Principal Designate, Mr Stevens to work with staff to deliver the quality of education desired by the community for so long. Together with parental support we have to be optimistic students will thrive”.
About Leigh Academy Minster
Subject to consultation and approval, Leigh Academy Minster will open in September 2024. It will offer:
● 180 places in each of years 7-11.
● A sixth form for 250 students.
● A grammar stream for more able pupils.
● Disruption free learning.
● Zero tolerance of bullying.
● A smart uniform free for all parents of existing pupils.
● A free Chromebook laptop for every pupil.
● The international gold standard IB curriculum.
