Dear parents and carers

RE: transfer of King Henry School (KHS) to Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) to become Leigh Academy Bexley.

In previous letters I explained that the transfer of KHS would happen at some point after Easter. I am delighted to say that we now have a confirmed transfer date from the Department for Education of 1st June 2023. This means that once pupils return for the final half-term of the year, they will be joining Leigh Academy Bexley, the 31st school to be part of our Trust. Mr Dixon and his team will write to parents with full details in due course which will include guidance about how pupils will receive their new school uniform required for September.

A great deal of work has gone into making this happen and I would like to thank all of those involved. Much improvement has occurred at KHS already even before it joins LAT fully. Staff and pupils have been working very hard this year to ensure a bright future for Leigh Academy Bexley and are now excited to continue that journey as a full member of LAT.

As per my previous letters, some very considerable investments will be made at Leigh Academy Bexley that you and your child will notice over the coming months. This will focus on improving the environment and the technology available to pupils and staff. In addition, we are working hard to make further appointments to our team of teachers, leaders and support staff so that Leigh Academy Bexley will be in a much stronger position from September.

We look forward to building our relationship with you as parents over the coming years as you are such an important partner to ensure the success and happiness of your child at school. We know that you have been especially frustrated with difficulties in communicating with the school in recent years. You’ll be pleased to know that the investment we will make to Leigh Academy Bexley’s telephone, email and management information systems should resolve those frustrations.

If you have any questions about the transfer, please contact the school in the normal way. Meanwhile, thank you for all of your support so far.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Beamish | Chief Executive
