On Wednesday 29th December 2021, students and staff from The Leigh University Technical College reunited to receive their long awaited Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award achieved in 2019.
It had proven very difficult with Coronavirus restrictions to arrange a time when all the students could meet up and come together. Since completing the award students had joined the armed services, were at university, working or even completing an Activity instructor course in Scotland.

The Deputy Mayor of Dartford, Councillor Paul Cutler congratulated the students and presented them with their awards.  Each student received a Duke of Edinburgh certificate, lapel pin and £25 Bluewater voucher.

23 Students completed their Bronze expedition in various locations, as wide ranging as Swattenden in Kent and the Brecon Beacons in Wales.  Each team hiked for over 16km whilst carrying their own equipment to be self-sufficient for their two day expedition.  One team even climbed Pen Y Fan and Corn Du summits, also known as “Arthurs Seat”.  At 886 metres this is the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons.

It was fantastic for staff to see how much the students had developed and put the skills learned through the Duke of Edinburgh experience into practice.
