A career with freedom

Leigh Academies Trust is not just one of the most successful multi-academy trusts in the UK but it’s also a place where you are encouraged to operate with freedom rather than following a rigid path.

This is why we focus on recruiting people with the right attitude as we know that this is the foundation of success for our academies and our students. Of course, if you recruit people with the right attitude and experience, then it is only right to give them the freedom to be themselves and think independently.

Freedom to be yourself

Across the Trust, we view individuality and diversity as a core component of our values. We don’t believe that staff should be expected to act and think in the same way, which is why we are dedicated to creating environments where people can share their own diverse backgrounds, experiences, perspectives and ideas. We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.

Freedom to develop and progress

As a Trust, we appreciate that it is the talent and ability of our staff that drives our performance which is why we are committed to not only supporting professional development, but also to give staff the freedom to map their own career paths and progress at their own speed.

The Trust provides extensive professional development opportunities to all staff and encourages an open dialogue about training needs on a regular basis.

Freedom to innovate

Part of our success as a Trust has been our continued emphasis on continuous improvement and innovation. We were the first in Europe to deploy iPads across our schools as well as implement other innovations to drive standards and outcomes across the Trust.

Whilst most Academy Trusts talk about collaboration between their schools, we believe that we are one of the few that actually does this well particularly as our geographical clusters of schools makes collaboration much easier. We also hold regular forums for staff to make sure we share great ideas with each other.

Whilst all of our academies are encouraged to be different, one consistent element is the ‘can do’ culture that our staff demonstrates on a daily basis. We encourage staff to express their ideas and give feedback wherever possible.

Freedom to inspire

An important part of our culture is giving our teaching staff the freedom to inspire their students and stimulate their curiosity in a way that works for them. We recognise, though, that the challenges of teaching in the UK and the pressures on a teacher’s time can often make this difficult. This is why we are constantly looking for ways to give teachers more time to prepare, plan and teach their students in the best possible way.

We work in partnership with all teaching unions to ensure that our teachers have the freedom to teach in the way that best benefits our students.
