Term 3 at Bearsted Primary Academy saw the opening of our mixed Year 1 and 2 class, Class 1B, and our nursery, Little Bears. Due to the current situation both classes opened slightly differently to how we had originally planned and envisaged, but using the power of technology we were able to bring everyone together; lockdown wasn’t going to stop us from building those vital relationships and delivering learning of the highest standard.

Our nursery, Little Bears, initially started online where families and pupils met their new teacher and got to know each other that little bit better. Then, due to changes from the Government, we were able to open our nursery properly for the first time on Wednesday 13th January welcoming in our youngest pupils. It was a fantastic day with each pupil going home with big smiles on their faces and keen to share their day’s adventure with their family. Since joining the nursery our Little Bears have been getting to know each other, building those important bonds between new friends and staff. They have been exploring their new setting and having mini adventures each day. It has been so wonderful to see.

Our new Key Stage 1 class, Class 1B, also started online but that hasn’t stopped them from getting to know one another and building those key relationships as well as working together when engaging in live learning sessions and activities. The children in this new class have never met one another, never met their teacher in person and have never had the chance to see their new school, yet they have fitted into life at BPA like ducks to water. They have multiple live sessions each day, where learning is led by their new teacher and tasks and activities are set on Google Classroom. They then check in again later and share their learning with their new classmates, celebrating their achievements and working together to achieve their best. We couldn’t be prouder with what they have achieved so far and look forward to when they all come together to learn in their new classroom at school.
