Longfield student nominated for a Try Angle Award

Joshua has been nominated for a Try Angle award. The Try Angle Awards recognise the outstanding efforts and achievements of young people and groups who really try their best whether at school, work, college, in business or in their wider community across Kent.

Joshua is a Year 13 student at Longfield Academy and is on the Professional Cookery course and alongside cooking, he has become interested in growing his own food. This started in a small way growing tomatoes in the garden but has developed into him taking on the responsibility of an allotment. The plot was very overgrown, but Joshua worked hard all summer clearing it and getting ready to plant his first crops. Through this he has earnt the companionship and respect of his fellow allotment growers who have lent him books and magazines to help increase his knowledge. His first allotment crops of leeks, potatoes and carrots have been a huge success and he enjoys bringing his food home for the kitchen.

It has been great to see him enjoy his time in the Professional Kitchen and gain confidence in his culinary ability but now he has taken this one step further in planning and growing his own ingredients. The other allotment holders have commented that they have never seen anyone maintain such a clear and tidy plot – especially in the winter!

LAT is delighted to announce that Joshua has been shortlisted as a winning nomination for the Dartford District and we look forward to hearing about the Presentation Celebration evening on Microsoft Teams later this month.

Congratulations Joshua and well done for all your hard work and dedication.
