Longfield Academy held its new mentor training today.
The Mentoring Scheme began at Longfield Academy back in 2011 and thus these new mentors will see us complete our first decade of successfully supporting selected students with the guidance of external business people.
The scheme will run from early 2020 onto the Easter of 2021 with new mentors, and many returning mentors, working 1:1 or 1:2 with selected year 10 students into their year 11 to support their forward career aspirations. We anticipate that over 50 students will benefit from the next tranche of this valuable initiative.
Led by Saara Williams, new mentors completed safeguarding training, DBS checks, were given an overview of academic reporting systems, discussed the role of the mentor and shared ideas for kick-starting conversations and developing the mentoring relationship.
Scheme administrator, Mrs Syplywczak, gave impressive testimony on examples of many previous successful parings and how students had gained from the scheme. The group was later joined by some of our returning mentors and enjoyed an informal networking session over an early Christmas lunch.
Sincere thanks to all our mentors for their invaluable work with our students.
