With some 40 Year 13 students completing Extended Project Qualifications at The Leigh UTC this year, three days of final presentations were held last week with panels of industry professionals joining teachers Mr Gittings and Mr Ogunrekun to assess students work.
As a first opportunity to conduct independent research, students chose either an artefact or a dissertation as their project. The young people presented on an expansive range of subjects including fabrication of medieval armour, a home retro games machine, motorway intersections and a comparison of the green credentials of the electric powered car as opposed to one powered by hydrogen. The range was certainly impressive!
Industry guests, several of whom have kindly participated in previous years panels, included a number of Kent and Medway STEM Ambassadors and came from the Royal Air Force, Transport For London, Connect Plus Services (M25), Alan Fletcher Solutions, The University of Kent School of Pharmacy, Hollowells Business Services and Ford Credit Bank.
Well done to our students and sincere thanks to our volunteer panelists for giving up their time and utilising their industry expertise to assist our students
Industry comment included:- “The presentation styles and the confidence of these students are as high as any individual already at work despite them being teenagers, fantastic.”
“It was great to listen to the students who were so passionate about what they do. Some of the outputs were outstanding.”
