We were delighted to welcome Gareth Johnson, MP for Dartford, to Cherry Orchard Primary Academy in the Ebbsfleet Garden City on Friday 20th July, for a visit. Mr Johnson was especially keen to explore the various successes the academy has achieved over its first year since opening in September 2017.
Cherry Orchard is the first new build primary academy in the Garden City, operated by Leigh Academies Trust. Mr Johnson toured the school and chatted to staff and pupils. The visit occurred as new pupils were visiting nursery and reception classes who will be starting with the academy properly in September.
The new academy has proved so successful that it is oversubscribed going into its second year. Local parents have responded to the high quality education offered by Cherry Orchard in large numbers by applying for a place at the academy. Many existing parents have already written to us to thank staff for the excellent start their children have made, some having had a false-start in other local schools before they started at Cherry Orchard this academic year.
As part of the visit Mr Johnson met with the academy’s Principal, Julie Forsythe, as well as Chair of the Primary Development Group, Anne Barritte, plus Simon Beamish and Neil Willis, CEO and Deputy CEO of Leigh Academies Trust respectively. All staff were tremendously grateful for Mr Johnson’s visit and are already planning hard for an even more successful second year, including the introduction of the highly innovative and prestigious International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
