The Leigh Academy recently hosted the 3rd Higher Apprenticeship evening.
The Restaurant was set up to allow the participants the opportunity to place their promotional materials in a way that allowed plenty of access for the students and parents. It was amazing to see how the restaurant area changed for the event.
We were fortunate to have EY, Lloyds of London, Laing O’Rourke, Davis Turner and many more attend the event, which is organised to get the Year 13 students thinking about possible careers options in the future. In total we had in excess of 20 organisations support the event. Many corporate organisations start their recruitment campaign in August so holding the event early gives students plenty of time to consider their options.
Nicola from EY mentioned that a number of students had applied to EY and it was a great opportunity to talk to the students about the recruitment process. A4G, a local Accountancy firm recruited 2 students from the Trust during the last academic year proving that targeted and appropriate career related events, improves the outcomes for our young people.
One of the students mentioned that he was exceptionally keen on a career with Davis Turner or Lloyds of London and was positively buzzing about the prospects of their apprenticeship opportunities.
We opened the event to all Trust students and we were fortunate to be joined by three Mascalls Academy students who travelled to the Darford event form the Paddock Wood area.
The television was set up to advertise the job opportunity page of the careers section of the website to businesses, students and their parents and carers. Students are actively applying for jobs, which we are advertising on the site and year on year it is attracting more opportunities.
A very successful evening and I feel certain that some of the students may gain employment/apprenticeship opportunities having attended the event.
