On Sunday the 26th February Prosper attended the All School shirt unveil event at Twickenham Stadium.
On arrival guests were greeted by RFU staff and escorted to a conference hall where students got changed into their new school shirt which they had designed earlier in the year in preparation for the day’s activities. We were very lucky to meet current England player Billy Vunipola who kindly gave up his time to stand for autographs and photographs with all guests as well as hosting a Q&A session where he gave a fascinating insight into the life of a professional rugby player, and what it means to pull on the England shirt and represent his country. After the Q&A session students were taken to the Twickenham pitch to rehearse their pre match activities, including a national anthem practice session with professional singer Laura Wright.
Prosper’s big moment came just before kick off at the England vs Italy game where he along with members of other schools involved in the CBRE All Schools Programme took to the field in front of a packed crowd of just under 82000 fans, and millions watching at home and abroad, to sing the national anthem and display the schools shirt.
He then re-joined the crowd along with Mr Cogger and 15 other Strood Academy students to watch an enthralling and controversial game in which England struggled to beat a spirited Italian side to top the 6 Nations group.
A fantastic day that exceeded expectations!
