The first set of Chromebases arrived at The Leigh UTC on 15th January. This will be the first test of these new devices in the Trust, and we are very excited to try them out.
Chromebases run Chrome OS, so are designed for heavy usage of the Google Apps suite as well as emphasis on web browsing, and are essentially a Chromebox built into a monitor. This gives them the appearance of a desktop PC, while in reality they are incredibly lightweight and easy to use. They are also very good value for money at £205 per unit. The Chromebase can also be used as a standalone monitor, thanks to an HDMI port on the back of the system. This extra functionality means that even if you need more than Chrome in the future, you will have a screen you can use with another desktop or laptop.
These Chromebases complement the usage of existing Chromebooks at the UTC, and we will be monitoring how students are using them in the months to come. If you would like to find out more about Chromebases you can see further details on the LG website.
